Unknown Mortal Orchestra began as the recording project of Ruban Nielson in 2010. After recording several songs and posting them online anonymously, Nielson signed to Fat Possum Records and released his self-titled debut “Unknown Mortal Orchestra” in 2011 to critical acclaim and success. Unknown Mortal Orchestra first dropped into the world in late 2010 as a bandcamp account carrying a single called ‘Ffunny Ffrends’.

Throwing fuzzy guitars, chunky basslines, and bubbling keyboards on top is a nice second step. Unknown Mortal Orchestra's genre-defying approach to music has allowed the band's sound to shift and evolve with every new album.The band's driving force, Ruban Nielson, is a psychedelic explorer with an experimental bent that was clear from the very first home-recorded Unknown Mortal Orchestra album, which paired his soaring guitar work with winsome melodies and trippy production. I just listened to II by Unknown Mortal Orchestra for the first time. It's a really good album and i'm excited to listen to it more and get into more of their music.
